Here are a couple of jigs that I came up with at the start of May 2021. They were prompted by playing Philippe Plard’s wonderful jig, Zelda, which was tune of the week for the Tunesday Tuesdays group on Facebook.
The ‘A’ music came to me quickly and quite complete, in both cases. The ‘B’ music was more labourious and I tried several variations before I was satisfied with either tune. The “development work” was done during a quiet shift in Ropley signalbox on the Watercress Line, so I’ve given both tunes names connected with the area. The nearby city of Winchester has long associated itself with Alfred The Great, one of the (many) capitals of Wessex. Chawton Woods are close to the line, between Alton and Four Marks.
Play King Alfred’s first.
