This is the second of two acoustic Sunday afternoon gigs at this year’s Oxford Folk Festival<\/a>. Both are new venues for us. Common Ground Cafe is a bit scruffy but very comfortable with sofas and armchairs. There’s tea, coffee, snacks and, if 4:15 on a Sunday isn’t too early for you, booze too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is free but there will be lots of collecting buckets and card readers around so please make a contribution to the festival’s running expenses.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Wolvercote & Wytham Midsummer Festival<\/a><\/h2><\/div>

Music for a summer evening, featuring The Pop-up Choir and The Strollers in the first half, then Three Pressed Men and Songer’s Copse after the interval – when the usually closed ffennel memorial gardens behind the church will be open to the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is free, donations welcome. Refreshments on sale from the concert bar, all proceeds towards the festival charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No parking beside the church. Please use the car park behind the (closed) White Hart pub.

You wait ages for a Three Pressed Men gig and then 2 come along together! We will be making 2 appearances on Sunday 21st April 2024 as part of this year’s Oxford Folk Festival<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of this year’s free stages is outside the coffee shop in the Covered Market. We are the first act on Sunday morning. Grab yourselves a drink and something nice to eat and join us for elevenses<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12:30 pm “Three In One” Concert, St Aldate’s Tavern<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An informal lunchtime concert in “The Blue Room” upstairs at The St Aldate’s Tavern, just across the road from Oxford Town Hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All three acts have been delighting audiences in Oxfordshire and beyond, for more years than anyone cares to remember, with their interpretations of traditional music and contemporary music that continues old traditions. Each will perform 2 sets during the afternoon. There will be lots for the audience to join in with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is FREE. There will be a collection, to cover our costs, principally the room hire. Suggested donation \u00a35 each,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you buy food or drink at the bar, please mention to the staff that you are in the concert upstairs. They will deduct the price of your order from the bill we have to pay at the end of the afternoon. You won’t be charged any extra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John Kirkpatrick at Cholsey Pavilion<\/a><\/h2><\/div>

John Kirkpatrick should have played at Cholsey Pavilion back in 2019 but wasn’t well enough on that occasion so Three Pressed Men stepped in and played a full set rather than just the planned support spot. Restored to full health, John is back in Cholsey this spring and Three Pressed Men are honoured to offer a warm-up set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tickets are just \u00a310 in advance from concerts@cholsey.com or 01491 652295, or \u00a312 at the door, though they’ve been selling well and are expected to sell out in advance. If you want to go, best get in touch with the organisers soon.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Songer’s Copse Debut at Folk Weekend: Oxford<\/a><\/h2><\/div>

“What is Songer’s Copse?” You may well ask. An internet search might lead you to a quiet corner of Wytham Woods on the western edge of Oxford, close to the old road to Cheltenham, known as The Singing Way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s also the name of a new 4-bloke a capella<\/em> singing group, made up of Three Pressed Men and a gentleman, with a repertoire ranging from Purcell to Cyril Tawney via West Gallery hymns, Hoagy Carmichael and a large dollop of the English tradition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first public performance will be in the gallery of the marvelous Pitt Rivers Museum<\/a>, as part of Folk Weekend: Oxford.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

We’ve been invited to grace the Local Acts line-up again, and been given a spot in one of our favourite venues. However, contrary to what we posted before, our performance (and all FWO artists) is in the Benjamin Henry Room, which is Blackwell’s new dedicated performance space at the top of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parking is almost impossible in central Oxford these days. We advise using the busses or cycling<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Folk Night at The Swan, Eynsham, 16th Jan 2023<\/a><\/h2><\/div>

An evening of mostly English, mostly traditional folk music performed by Three Pressed Men in the informal cafe atmosphere of The Swan’s function room. Expect fine musicianship, plenty of choruses and slightly too many concertinas!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
