Sun 22nd Train 1: Edinburgh–Aberdeen–Inverness, 46115 Scots Guardsman
Queensferry; North Queensferry; Markinch; Lunan Bay; Insch to Wardhouse; Tillytarmont; Boat o’ Brigg; Elgin; Forres; Brodie Castle; Inverness. After crossing the Forth Bridge, the train divided, with 46115 continuing to Aberdeen and Inverness, while 61994 proceeded to Fort William, via Stirling and the outskirts of Glasgow.
Train 2: Thornton Junction–Fort William, 61994 The Great Marquess
Culross; Crianlarich; LochTulla / Achallader. 61994 was struggling with a badly clinkered fire. Running more than an hour late she had to stop at the top of the climb from Loch Lomond for a “blow up” before easing down the hill into Crianlarich, where more time was taken up cleaning the fire. The sun was setting and Laurie was on the point of giving up when the train finally appeared above Bridge Of Orchy.
